The Burns Hilander football team and the cheerleading squad closed out the 2008 season with their awards ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Burns High School.
Head football coach Scott Smyth said he was proud of this year’s team and despite a losing record, “These guys went to battle together, finished every game strong and never walked away.” Smyth also announced every player and manager on this year’s team earned a varsity letter.
After introducing the players, Smyth presented the special awards and the recipients of those awards are as follows:
Outstanding offensive lineman — Andy Hammon.
Outstanding receiver — Zach Dobson.
Outstanding offensive back — Ethan Bentz.
Outstanding defensive lineman — Michael Martin.
Outstanding linebacker — Garrett Bentz.
Outstanding defensive back — E. Bentz.
Most improved — Dobson, Hammon and Casey Thein.
Most Valuable — Martin and E. Bentz.

Cheerleading coach Sharla Calkins introduced the members of this year’s cheerleading squad and presented them with their awards.
This year’s squad included Jessica Trotter, Shawna Buck, Rachael Allison, Danene Julian, Angel Davis, Janelle Carrerow, Kaitlyn Estep, Whitney Calkins, Brenda Bouchard, Emma Rose and Ashtyn Gunderson.
