Maurine McGowan Steinauer died on Jan. 10.
She was born on March 13, 1940.
Steinauer fondly talked of her early childhood in Burns and was a member of the 1958 graduating class of Burns Union High School. Her true loves were her children and grandchildren. Whether it was attending little league games for 20 years, making cookies for any occasion or simply showing off her most recent family pictures, she always had a smile on her face.
Steinauer enjoyed working with the community of Corvallis and held positions with Benton County at both the commissioner’s office and the courthouse. She was involved with various charitable causes and other organizations during the years including Assistance League, P.E.O. and Sigma Kappa Sorority. She was also very active with the First Presbyterian Church, doing readings on occasion and assisting with the children’s religion classes.
Steinauer is survived by her children, Mark and wife, Dianna of Corvallis, Paul of Napa, Calif., and Matt and wife, Vanessa of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Shelby, Collin, Sophia and Grant; brother, Ron McGowan and wife, Seana of St. Helena, California, and many wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, George McGowan, an early pioneer of Harney County, and the man who named the town of Burns; grandparents, Archie and Juanita McGowan; and parents Burns and Marjorie McGowan.
A service was held in Corvallis on Jan. 16, and the family asks that any donations be made to a charity of your choice.
