Crane’s varsity boys ran past two High Desert League opponents over the weekend, defeating Harper and Burnt River.
Friday’s game against the Harper Hornets had the Mustangs winning by 40 points, 57-17.
Dallen Davies hit a 3-pointer to start the game, followed up by a Royal Henricks shot inside. Jordan Conaway and Henricks blocked two Hornet shots during the first quarter, while offensively the Mustangs racked up points on quick breaks down the floor off steals and defensive rebounds. At the end of the first, Crane had a 27-4 lead.
By halftime the Mustangs had spread their lead, holding Harper to a single bucket, while raising the score on Crane’s end with Max Miller, Henricks and Ryan Opie shots. Going into the third, the score was 38-6.
Jeran Conaway knocked down the first six points of the third quarter, using a Raymond Thompson assist inside, putting an offensive rebound back up, and scoring on an inbounds play. The Hornets were again allowed only two points for the quarter, and the last period began with the Mustangs up 53-8.
Harper hit four out of five from the free-throw line during the fourth, and made five points from the field to outscore the Mustangs 9-4 in the last minutes.
Jeran Conaway was Crane’s leading scorer, hitting for 15 points. Jordan Conaway downed 10, Henricks made nine and Opie and Davies scored eight each. Rounding out the scoring was Miller with three and Thompson and Pete Joyce with two points apiece.

The Burnt River Bulls gave the Mustangs a run for their money during the first half of Saturday’s game, with Crane leading by only five going into the locker room at halftime. But, it turned into a different game during the third as Jeran Conaway hit 15 points during the quarter, and the Mustangs went on to take an 84-50 win.
The Bulls were sent to the free-throw line 29 times during the game, hitting 19 of their shots — 13 of the points were made in the first half. The Mustangs saw the charity strip 28 times, hitting only 10.
Jeran Conaway was Cranes’ leading scorer, hitting 29 points. He was followed by Jordan Conaway with 21 and Davies with 12. Cole Maupin and Milton Merritt came off the bench to score six and five, respectively; Joyce, Thompson and Blake Steeves made two points each; and Opie scored one.
