Concert will benefit youth anti-drinking and driving program
By Lauren Brown
Burns Times-Herald
Cowboy singer and songwriter Dave Stamey will perform at the US Bank stage at the Harney County Fairgrounds on May 23 as a benefit for Crane Union High School’s “Every 15 Minutes” anti-drinking and driving program.
Opening for Stamey will be local singer/songwriter Levi Harris.
Stamey lives in Nipomo, Calif., and his accolades include being twice voted Entertainer of the Year, three times voted Male Performer of the Year and twice voted Songwriter of the year by the Western Music Association. He has also received the Will Rogers Award from the Academy of Western Artists.
He has been a cowboy, a mule packer, a dude wrangler and now makes a living touring with his music. He considers himself a folk singer as opposed to a country artist. In an interview with the Santa Barbara News Press he clarified that by saying, “The folks I sing about just happen to wear cowboy hats. I don’t identify myself with the country music industry, and they sure don’t claim me.”
According to his Web site (www.davestamey.com) biography, “He’s delighted audiences in 14 states, and finds that he prefers this to being stomped by angry horses.”
Those who pre-purchase tickets will be entered into a raffle for a gift package donated by the Harney County Veterinary Clinic. Look for the Stamey posters in local businesses that are selling tickets or purchase tickets from CUHS students.
There will be a trade show starting at 5 p.m. before the 7 p.m. concert. Those who are interested in a booth space rental can contact Ty McNab at 493-2557.
