A free demonstration and class for “Moving for Better Balance,” an easy to learn tai chi system that is clinically proved to prevent falls and restore balance, will be held on Nov. 4, at 10:45 a.m. at the Harney County Senior and Community Services Center. Harney County Court meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Harney County Courthouse, 450 North Buena Vista, at 10 a.m.

Storytime for preschoolers is scheduled at the Harney County Library, 80 West D St., each  Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Contact the Harney County Library for more information 573-6670.

Bring the babies to Lapsit Storytime at Harney County Library, each Wednesday at 10 a.m. Enjoy music, stories, rhymes and fingerplays especially for babies and toddlers.

Dr. Tom Fitzpatrick and the Mobile Health Clinic, sponsored by Harney District Hospital, will be in Drewsey and Crane on Nov. 5. This is a full-service health clinic that comes to you. Appointments are encouraged to ensure adequate time, supplies and equipment, but walk-ins are welcome. Call the High Desert Medical Center at 573-8894 to schedule an appointment, and bring your insurance information to assure proper billing.

Burns Butte Sportsmen’s Club meets the first Thursday of each month at the State Office Building, 809 West Jackson, at 7 p.m.

Tai Chi is held every Thursday at the Harney County Senior and Community Services Center, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. All ages are welcome to participate.

Kiwanis Club of Burns-Hines meets for a no-host luncheon each Thursday at Glory Days Pizza, 690 Oregon Avenue, at noon.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets each Thursday at Hines City Hall, 101 East Barnes, at noon. Call 573-2896.

Friday, November 6

Teen Late Night at the Harney County Library, will be held on Friday, Nov. 6 from 6 to 8 pm. The evening will include music, snacks, games and crafts. Teens are invited to come and chill out at the library with their friends! Free and open to students in grades 6-12.

Oregon Old Time Fiddlers, District 9, meets the first, third and fourth Friday of each month. Call Julia at 573-2770, for time and place.

Friday Morning Book Club with Lisa, a new program for kids ages 7-10, will be held at the Harney County Library from 9-10 a.m. The program will include stories and crafts.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Friday at Foursquare Church at 7 p.m.


Saturday, November 7

Pioneer Presbyterian Church Harvest Festival Dinner and Bazaar will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7. The bazaar  will begin at 10 a.m. and continue through 7 p.m. Items for sale will include Christmas gift ideas, homemade specialty food and crafts. Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m., and will include stew, bread, salad and homemade pies.

Diabetes Support Group meets at the Harney County Health Building, 420 North Fairview, the first Saturday of each month at 2 p.m.

Alanon holds an open meeting each Saturday at Foursquare Church at 7 p.m.

Monday, November 9

HDH Sports & Physical Therapy will offer a free athletic injury clinic at that facility, 559 West Washington, every Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. A physical therapist will assess and treat athletic injuries and provide education for athletes and parents on self management of injuries. Burns Fire Dept. meets each Monday at the Burns Fire Hall at 7 p.m.

The Hines Volunteer Fire Department meets at the Hines Fire Hall each Monday at 7 p.m. (except the last Monday of the month). Prospective members may contact Fire Chief Bob Spence at 573-7477 or 573-2251.

Narcotics Anonymous holds an open meeting each Monday at 7 p.m. at Foursquare Church.

The Burns Lions Club meets each Monday at noon at the Burns Elks Lodge, 118 N. Broadway, for lunch. Those interested in serving the community are welcome.

Harney County Chamber Music Society Choir meets the second and fourth Tuesday, September-November and January-March. The choir meets in the Burns High School band room, from 7-8:30 p.m., with Marianne Andrews directing. Singers ages 13-up are welcome.

Harney County Fair Board meets the second Tuesday of each month in the Hibbard Building at the Harney County Fairgrounds at 7 p.m.

The Harney County Library Foundation Board of Directors meets on the second Tuesday of each month, at the library, at 5:30 p.m. The meetings are open to the public. For more information, call 573-7339.

Harney County Commission on Children and Families meets the second Tuesday of the month in the conference room of the State Office Building, 809 W. Jackson, at 2 p.m. The public is invited. For more information, call 573-3350.

The DEFEAT Cancer Group meets the second Tuesday of each month, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Harney District Hospital Conference Room. The group focuses on lifestyle choices, which improve success against cancer and provides support to cancer patients, family and friends. This group is provided by Harney District Hospital in conjunction with live broadcasts from St. Charles Medical Center and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The American Legion Auxiliary meets the second Tuesday of each month at Harney County Senior Center, 17 South Alder, at 2 p.m.

The Burns/Hines District #3 Schools board of directors meets at the District Office, 550 North Court, the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.

Hines Common Council meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Hines City Hall, 101 East Barnes, at 7 p.m.

Boy Scout Troop 440, sponsored by the Burns Lion’s Club, meets each Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the LDS Church in Hines. Boys ages 11-18 are welcome to join.
