With regard to the County land not selling at public auction I agree with Roaring Springs Ranch, that the minimum bid is set much too high. My opinion is that the County should not be involved in the real estate business. Nor should they be involved in the sale of mineral rights. Properties that are transferred to public ownership due to a failure of the property owners to pay taxes should be sold to the highest bidder with the minimum bid set as the total amount of back taxes owed, plus reasonable interest, plus actual cost for the county to offer at auction. In addition, any mineral rights should be included with the public sale, as retaining them represents a "cloud" on the title that did not exist prior to the County sale. The public is best served when public policy makes sense. I would like to see these changes made to our County tax foreclosure sales and leave the business of real estate to the private sector.
