Beverly Jan Averill, known to many as Jan, died on April 24 at Chester River Hospital Center in Maryland. She was 48. 
Born on April 27, 1961, in Philadelphia, Pa. She is the daughter of Rusty Herbert Arthur Averill, retired Chief Deputy Constable of Las Vegas and the late Tiffany Joann Fay Zimmerman.
Averill grew up in both New Castle and Wilmington, Del., attended William Penn High School, and moved from Chester County, Pa. to Millington, Md. in 2000.
She enjoyed riding her Harley and was a member of ABATE, a motorcycle riding club. She also enjoyed gardening, music, the beach, riding horses, visiting Assateague Island and the beauty of Eastern Oregon. She was a pet lover; she bred German shepherds and Persian cats and also worked at the Delaware Park Thoroughbred track. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with them.
In addition to her father, Russ, she is survived by a husband of 28 years, Bob Berk of Millington, Md.; brothers, John Averill and his wife Joyce of Indianola, Iowa, Bruce Averill of Las Vegas and Ronald Averill of Townsend, Del.; sisters, Tiffany Bartolomei and her husband Tony of Townsend, Del., Susan Durnan of Middletown, Del., Cheryl Jakubowski and her husband Glenn of Burns and Pamela West and her spouse Judy of Coventry, Conn.; nephews, Wayne Roni (W.R.), Sean and Cory; nieces, Ami, Erin, Christine and Jennifer. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews.
A gathering and viewing service was held on May 2 at at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St. Millington, Md. Her ashes will be scattered at Assateague Island, one of her most loved places.
