Harney County Court meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Harney County Courthouse, 450 North Buena Vista, at 10 a.m.

The Hilander Booster Club meets the third Wednesday of each month at noon at Glory Days Pizza.

Harney Partners for Kids and Families meets on the third Wednesday of each month at noon, at Glory Days Pizza. Lunch is provided, please RSVP to Michelle Bradach, president.

Harney Grant Babe Ruth board meets the third Wednesday of each month in the courthouse basement meeting room, 450 North Buena Vista, at 7 p.m.

Oregon Hunters Association is for all hunters, whether rifle, bow, shotgun, muzzle loader or other. The local chapter meets at Glory Days Pizza, the third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m and is followed by a board meeting.

Harney County Library will present “The High Lava Plains Geoscience Project: What We Learned,” on Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. Five years ago, a team of scientists installed seismometers across a broad area of the Northwest, including Harney County. What did they discover about volcanic activity here? Find out what the high lava plains are and what this study means for Harney County.

A Merchant’s Meeting will be held at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Harney County Community Center. Topics of discussion will include the Chili Cook-off, Halloween and holiday plans.

Burns Planning Commission meets the third Thursday of each month at Burns City Hall, 242 South Broadway, at 7 p.m.

Harney County Historical Society meets the third Thursday of each month at the Elks Lodge, 118 North Broadway, at 11:45 a.m.

Burns Butte Sportsman’s Club will sponsor a 100 bird dual shoot, “Pre-Hunting Jamboree,” on Sept. 18, at the Radar Base. The shoot will include two events — 50 sporting clays and 50 trap birds — with clays beginning at 9:30 a.m. All shooters are welcome. Trophies for high-overall in each event will be awarded. Separate awards will be presented for youth and women if enough participate. Lunch will be available.

An AARP Driver Safety Program course will be held on Sept. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Harney County Health Department, 420 N. Fairview. The program is a classroom refresher course, especially designed for drivers 50 and over, but is open to drivers of any age. Completion of the entire program is necessary to receive the Driver Safety certificate. Drivers 55 and older who present their certificate to their auto insurance, may receive a discount on insurance. To maintain the discount, people up to age 69 must take the course every three years and people age 70 and over need to take the course every two years. Harney District Hospital will sponsor “Eating Healthy on a Budget,” on Tuesday, Sept. 21, from noon to  1 p.m. in the HDH Board Room. The Health District Board Meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m. in the Board Conference Room of Harney District Hospital.

Rimrock Recycling board meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. at 29903 Hotchkiss Lane.
The American Legion Harney County Post #63 meets at 63 West “C” Street on the third Tuesday of each month, at 7 p.m.

Harney Basin Writers meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the Harney County Library, from 2 to 4 p.m. Writers of any age and writing style are encouraged to attend.

Harney County Library Foundation meets the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.

Sylvia Rebekah Lodge meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at the I.O.O.F. Hall, 348 North Broadway, at 6:30 p.m.

The Chamber Orchestra meets the first and third Tuesday of each month in the Burns High School band room, 1100 Oregon Avenue, from 7-8:30 p.m. with Ken Peckham directing, September through November, and January through March.

All 0 to 3-year-olds and their parents are welcome to attend play group at the Early Childhood Center at 655 W. Fillmore, weekly on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Boy Scout Troop 440, sponsored by the Burns Lion’s Club, meets each Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the LDS Church in Hines. Boys ages 11-18 are welcome to join.
