Burns Butte Sportsman’s Club will sponsor a 100 bird dual shoot, “Pre-Hunting Jamboree,” on Sept. 18, at the Radar Base. The shoot will include two events — 50 sporting clays and 50 trap birds — with clays beginning at 9:30 a.m. All shooters are welcome. Trophies for high-overall in each event will be awarded. Separate awards will be presented for youth and women if enough participate. Lunch will be available.
An AARP Driver Safety Program course will be held on Sept. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Harney County Health Department, 420 N. Fairview. The program is a classroom refresher course, especially designed for drivers 50 and over, but is open to drivers of any age. Completion of the entire program is necessary to receive the Driver Safety certificate. Drivers 55 and older who present their certificate to their auto insurance, may receive a discount on insurance. To maintain the discount, people up to age 69 must take the course every three years and people age 70 and over need to take the course every two years.
