Harney County Court meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Harney County Courthouse, 450 North Buena Vista, at 10 a.m.

The Harney County Community Response Team (CRT) meets the first Wednesday of every month from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Community Center located at 484 N. Broadway. The CRT consists of anyone interested in what is going on in the county as it relates to business and industry. County, city and tribal leaders provide general information to the public regarding existing programs and recruitment efforts.

High Desert Park and Recreation District board of directors meets the first Wednesday of each month in their office at Lincoln Junior High School, 550 North Court, at 7 p.m.

Bring babies to Lapsit Storytime at Harney County Library each Wednesday at 10 a.m. Enjoy music, stories, rhymes and fingerplays especially for babies and toddlers.

Burns Elks Lodge, 118 North Broadway, meets each Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Foursquare Church, 74 S. Alvord, Burns.

Harney County Library will hold a block party on Thursday, Aug. 4, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. They’re celebrating summer and reading and you are invited to join them. There will be lots to do —  burrito dinner for $4; summer reading program awards will be given out; silent auction; used book sale; crafts and games for kids; 2nd annual Duck Race: get your rubber duckie for $5 and race against the flock. Ducks may be purchased ahead of time at the library or the night of the event.

Broadway Deli, 530 N. Broadway, will hold a Basque food and wine tasting on Aug. 4, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Dr. Tom Fitzpatrick and the Mobile Health Clinic will be in Drewsey and Crane on Aug. 4, at the Drewsey Community Hall from 9 a.m. to noon and at the Crane School Modular Annex from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This is a full-service health clinic which comes to you, and is sponsored by Harney District Hospital. Appointments are encouraged to ensure adequate time, supplies and equipment for your appointment, but walk-ins are always welcome. Call Harney District Hospital Outpatient Scheduling, 541-573-8605 to schedule an appointment and bring your insurance information to assure proper billing.

Burns Butte Sportsmen’s Club meets the first Thursday of each month at the State Office Building, 809 West Jackson, at 7 p.m.

Rimrock Recycling board meetings are held the first and third Thursday of every month at noon at 29903 Hotchkiss Lane.

Kiwanis Club of Burns-Hines meets for a no-host luncheon each Thursday at Glory Days Pizza, 690 Oregon Avenue, at noon.

Tai Chi for Better Balance with Diane Rapaport is held each Thursday at Harney County Senior and Community Services,  from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  — free.

Customer Appreciation Night will be held in downtown Burns on Aug. 5, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 541-573-1725.

Harney District Hospital will hold a community and employee appreciation barbecue at the Burns Elks Lodge on Aug. 5, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The community is invited to enjoy a free hamburger and hotdog dinner featuring Buermann’s Ranch Meats beginning at 6 p.m. and live music by “Bitterroot” from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A free picnic and concert will be held in Hines Park on Friday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to enjoy the evening which will include jump-houses, snowcones and more.

Car Seat Friday is held the first Friday of every month from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burns City Hall. Harney Safe Kids hosts the car seat fitting station. Parents and other caregivers are invited to drop by over the lunch hour to have their car seats checked for proper fit. Parents are encouraged to bring their children, so that a technician can ensure the best possible fit. Car seats and booster seats will be available for purchase also. A Bike Rodeo will be held in the Burns High School parking lot from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 6.

The 29th annual Steens Rim Run will be held on Aug. 6. For more information, go to www.steensrimrun.com.

The annual Frenchglen Jamboree will be held on Aug. 6. The day will include kids and adult arena events, a barbecue and music. Registration for the arena events will begin at 8:30 a.m. Concessions will be available throughout the day. For more information, call 541-495-2315.

OSU Extension Service will hold a salsa workshop on Saturday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Harney County Courthouse.
