Burns Hines Liquor Store holds a free wine-tasting event the last Wednesday of each month, at 6 p.m.

An open house honoring Justice of the Peace Dewey Newton, who is retiring effective Aug. 31, will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 2 p.m. in the Harney County Courthouse lobby. Everyone is welcome to attend and say thank you to Judge Newton for his years of service to Harney County.

Bring babies to Lapsit Storytime at Harney County Library each Wednesday at 10 a.m. Enjoy music, stories, rhymes and fingerplays especially for babies and toddlers.

Storytime for preschoolers is scheduled at the Harney County Library, 80 West D St., each Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Contact the Harney County Library for more information, 541-573-6670.

Dr. Tom Fitzpatrick and the Mobile Health Clinic will be in Drewsey and Crane on Sept. 1, at the Drewsey Community Hall from 9 a.m. to noon and at the Crane School Modular Annex from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This is a full-service health clinic which comes to you, and is sponsored by Harney District Hospital. Appointments are encouraged to ensure adequate time, supplies and equipment for your appointment, but walk-ins are always welcome. Call Harney District Hospital Outpatient Scheduling, 541-573-8605 to schedule an appointment and bring your insurance information to assure proper billing.

Car Seat Friday is held the first Friday of every month from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burns City Hall. Harney Safe Kids hosts the car seat fitting station. Parents and other caregivers are invited to drop by over the lunch hour to have their car seats checked for proper fit. Parents are encouraged to bring their children, so that a technician can ensure the best possible fit. Car seats and booster seats will be available for purchase also. 4-H and FFA sheep shearing will be held on Sunday, Sept. 4, beginning at 8:30 a.m., at 1425 Foley Dr. (Tiny and Sue’s house). All sheep must be slick-shorn to be shown during the Harney County Fair. Bring lambs to the shearing clean and dry. For more information, call 541-573-5944.

The Burns Lions Club meets the first and third Monday of each month at noon at Figaro’s Pizza for lunch. Those interested in serving the community are welcome.

Masonic Lodge meets the first  Monday of each month at the Burns Masonic Lodge, 1210 West Taylor, at 7 p.m.

Community PRIDE meets every Monday morning from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Pine Room banquet room. Those interested in the communities of Harney County are welcome to attend and participate in this forum for community involvement for community benefit.

The Harney County Cooperative Weed Management Area will hold the annual weedy evening event at the Burns Elks Lodge on Thursday, Aug. 25. The focus this year is on the identification, control and management of Medusahead rye. Presenters will include Zola Ryan of the NRCS, Dustin Johnson of the OSU ag extension and Lesley Richman of Burns BLM. All interested are welcome.
