Jay Dee (Bud) Hanneman died on Aug. 28.
He was born on May 5, 1933, in Prineville.
Hanneman grew up in Tumalo, attending school there and in Redmond. At the age of 18, he moved to Oakridge to work for the Edward Hines Lumber Company at Westfir. He worked at both the Westfir and Hines mills for a total of 32 years.
Hanneman was drafted in the U.S. Army when he was 20 years old, and served two years. He received his basic training at Fort Ord, Calif.
After completing basic training training, he married Mary L. Cathey, and then served 18 months at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, AK.
Hanneman had many hobbies, including rock hunting. He had a talent for fixing things and making something out of other peoples junk. He gardened for many years by himself, canning what he raised.
Hanneman is survived by his wife, Mary of Burns; son, Shannon Hanneman of Oakridge; grandchildren, Haylee Hanneman, Josh Hanneman, Kaysea Wilkinson, Stacey Hanneman and Katie Hanneman; and great-grandson, Jayden Wilkinson.
At his request, he will be cremated and there will be no funeral service.
