The Burns baseball team improved to 4-0 in Eastern Oregon League (EOL) play by sweeping Riverside 8-3 and 10-1 on Friday, April 20, at Corbett Memorial Field.

Burns increased their lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Brennan Bailey and Jeff Garner’s two-run single.

The Hilanders tacked on two more runs in the sixth when Stampke doubled home Casey Heinz and then scored on a single by Tyler Cooper.

In the top of the seventh with Burns up 8-1, the Pirates made things interesting when the first three batters scored two runs on an error and two doubles.

The rally ended there however, as Piper put the next three batters down in order.

Stampke was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and Garner 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Hilanders took control of the second game with a seven-run fourth inning. Leading 3-1, the Hilanders put their first two batters on with walks and then loaded the bases on a single by Heinz. Austin Feist followed with an RBI single and Stampke doubled in two more runs. Sims then singled to bring in Feist and Stampke. A two-out single by Garner drove in the final two runs for Burns.

The win went to Stampke as he gave up just one unearned run on four hits over seven innings while striking out eight and walking two.

Heinz, Feist, Stampke and Garner each collected two hits for Burns.

Burns couldn’t hold the lead however, as the Outlaws put three runs on the board in the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth.
