Nolan Stampke drove in five runs with two home runs and Austin Martin delivered a two-run single as Burns downed Glide 8-2 on Saturday, May 26, to advance to the semifinals of the OSAA 3A State Baseball playoffs.
Stampke also picked up the win on the mound, scattering 10 hits over seven innings while striking out two.
Glide’s only lead of the game came in the first inning when they pushed a run across on three hits.
Brennan Bailey and Jeff Garner hit back-to-back singles to lead off Burns’ half of the second inning, and Tyler Sims loaded the bases when he was hit by a pitch. Martin then singled to give Burns a 2-1 lead.
After a walk by Casey Heinz, Austin Feist drove in a run on a fielder’s choice. Stampke then stepped to the plate and delivered a three-run shot over the fence to put the Hilanders up 6-1.
With two outs in the fourth, Feist was hit by a pitch and came home on Stampke’s homer over the centerfield fence.
The Hilanders would have only one base runner the remainder of the game, but the damage had been done.
The Wildcats added a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly, and stranded a total of nine runners in the game.
Burns played Santiam Christian, a 3-0 winner over Vale, in the semifinals on Tuesday, May 29, but results of that game were not available by press time.
The winner of the Burns-Santiam Christian game faces the winner of the game between Bandon and Cascade Christian in the 3A championship game on Friday, June 1, at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer.

Cam Hueckman started the rally off by reaching first on a dropped third strike, followed by a walk to Casey Heinz. Feist reached base on an error that also allowed Hueckman to score from second. The Hilanders then tied the game at 7-7 on RBI singles by Stampke and Tyler Cooper and took the lead when Stampke scored on a ground out.
Cooper added a two-run single in the fifth to provide the final margin of victory.
Burns took a 3-1 lead in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk by Bailey and Garner’s single to right field that brought in two runs.
