Shave and a hair cut! A new, old-fashioned barber shop has opened on main street.

Donna Shinn, owner and barber, has turned her long-time dream into a reality. Barbering has always been a hobby for Shinn, and now she can do what she loves every day.

“Being a barber is a satisfying career because you get quick results and can see the finished product instantly,” said Shinn.

Shinn has lived in Burns for 25 years after being transferred here for work. Having a busy life of being in military service in Mountain Home, Idaho earlier in her life and then raising her children, Shinn never had time to open her own business and live her dream. After the service, Shinn attended Phagens Beauty School in Medford for women’s beauty and received her license. Just a few years ago Shinn attended barber’s college while living in Salt Lake City, Utah. She then returned to Burns to open her shop.

“I am very blessed to have my own business, and Burns is a great place to open a shop. I have had tons of support,” said Shinn.

Shinn offers men’s haircuts and shaves in the old-fashioned barber chair. By the holidays, she plans to offer old-fashioned straight-edge face shaves.

Shinn said she wanted to offer a place for men to come and have their hair cut by a woman barber and not have to go to a women’s salon and to bring an older service back to life.

Shinn’s shop is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
