Jay Patrick Winn died Sept. 30.
Jay was born Oct. 20, 1975, at Harney County Hospital in Burns.
As a young boy, he was rough, tough and adventurous. He attended grade school in Burns and Hines. His parents moved quite a bit in his early years, but Harney County was always home to him. Jay started hunting with his dad about the same time that he started wrestling. His love of the outdoors and hunting was equaled only by his love of sports.
Jay attended high school in Burns. While he was very bright, the only reason he consented to attend school was so that he could participate in football, wrestling and baseball. He was a stand-out athlete with an incredible work ethic.
After high school, he attended Western Oregon University where he played football for one season.
Jay then began to prepare to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called to serve in the California Riverside Mission. Those two years greatly influenced the rest of his life.
He returned home in March 1999 and soon met and married the love of his life, Alison “Ali” Ruth Huddleston. They were married Aug. 14, 1999, in the Dallas, Texas, Temple.
The couple then moved to Cleveland, Miss., to attend Delta State University. While Ali concentrated on completing her degree, Jay was busy educating the Delta State football team on how to play football the proper, “Oregon” way.
After Ali received her diploma in 2000, the couple moved back to Burns, and Jay started his career in construction.
Jay and Ali proceeded to have a family together. First were two sons, Michael Jonathan and Justin Daniel. Then they were blessed with their only daughter, Kasey Lee, who was followed by two more sons, Thomas Jay and Kaleb James.
Jay loved being a husband and a dad. Everything he did was for his family or his friends. Jay’s favorite thing to do was hunt or fish with people he loved. He was an enthusiastic coach for his boys in wrestling and football.
Jay is survived by his wife and children; parents, William and Judy Winn; siblings, Jaymie Hampson, Daniel Winn and Myla SkunkCap; grandparents, Donna Tackman and William Winn; and a large, extended family of nieces, nephews and in-laws.
