PUBLIC NOTICE
Harney County, the Oregon Department of Forestry, the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Harney County Forestland Classification Committee will be holding a public meeting on December 4, 2012 beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the basement conference room of the Harney County Courthouse.
The meeting is designed to meet property owners that own lands that are protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry (lands located in the north portion of the county and north of Burns on classified timberlands).
During the meeting landowners will have an opportunity to look at the most current treatment recommendations to protect structures in the event of a wildfire. The program is titled “The Oregon Forestland-Urban Interface Fire Protection Act,” and offers homeowners a simple formula to treat vegetation near their house to reduce chances that a wildfire could ignite the home during a forest fire.
The act is specific to property owners that are protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry but any homeowner is welcome to attend. The meeting is expected to last about two hours.
On December 17 again at 5:00 P.M. the Forestland Classification Committee will hold a formal hearing to take testimony from property owners that would like to provide information regarding their property. The hearing location is at the Harney County Courthouse in the basement conference room.
Anyone having questions or that would like additional information is welcome to call Tom Andrade at 541-549-6761 or e-mail tandrade@odf.state.or.us.
