“New” casino projected to open in Spring

In a press release printed in the Burns Times-Herald Wednesday, Nov. 21, the Burns Paiute Tribal Council announced that “in light of a recent evaluation of the existing structure it would be in the best interest of … patrons and staff to initiate a temporary closure of the Old Camp Casino.”
The closure began Monday, Nov. 26, and will remain in effect until a new building is erected in its place. The projected opening of the “new” Old Camp Casino is spring 2013.
“We are excited. We are going to build a new casino,” Old Camp Casino General Manager Pamala Sherburn said.
Sherburn said the casino employs 42 people, who will be laid off until the new structure is built. However, she said, the casino plans to re-hire all of its employees and add positions by the time the new building is completed.
Sherburn said construction on the new casino building will begin as soon as possible and will depend on weather conditions, as construction is planned to take place this winter.
Because the new casino will inhabit the same space as the existing one, construction on the new building will not begin until the existing building is taken down, Sherburn said.
