Catherine Julia Heinz, 87, of La Grande, formerly of Burns, died at the Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande on Friday, Nov. 23.

Catherine was born April 13, 1925, in West New York, N.J., to Herman and Matilda (Jagemann) Wilhelm.

She was raised in Hackensack, N.J., and lived for several years in Burns, where she was employed as a nurse’s aide at the Harney County Hospital. She married Leslie Heinz, who died in 1988.

Catherine is survived by her children and their spouses, Edward and Karen Heinz of Battle Mountain, Nev., Bernice and Willard Hafer of La Grande and Jerry and Beth Heinz of Seattle, Wash.; sisters, Teresa Hackett of Redmond, Wash., and Frances Harvey of New Jersey; brother-in-law, Grover Heinz of Burns; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie; her parents; six brothers; and four sisters.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
