The Burns girls basketball team improved to 5-2 on the season with a 50-35 non-conference win over Ridgeview on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Burns High School.

The Hilanders were led by Charli Siegner with 17 points, Shelby Sanders with 11 and Jordon Long with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Trailing 6-5 in the first quarter, Burns went on a 10-2 run to finish the period with a 15-8 lead.

The Ravens closed the gap to 19-16 on a 3-pointer by McKenzie Hidalgo midway through the second quarter, but the Hilanders then outscored Ridgeview 9-1 to take an 11-point lead into halftime.

Ridgeview started the third quarter fast, getting two lay-ins from Shae Wilcox and another 3-pointer by Hidalgo to close the gap to four.

Long then completed a three-point play, and Sanders drilled a shot from outside the arc to put Burns back up by eight. The Hilanders’ defense took over, and the Ravens could get no closer for the remainder of the game.

Burns hit the boards well, getting 20 rebounds at both ends of the court.

The Hilanders also came up with 13 steals, led by Long and Sanders with four apiece.

The Burns JV also came up with a win against Ridgeview, downing the Ravens 63-25.

Burns will be competing in the Sisters Tournament Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 27-29.
