Al had a 20-year coaching career, in which the Swartzlender family collected 14 high school state wrestling titles.

Al is survived by his long-time companion,  eight children, three grandchildren and one on the way, parents, siblings, nieces, nephews and many friends and acquaintances.

Donations in his memory may be made to any child in need or any youth sports team.
