Burns goes 1-2 in tournament

The Burns Hilanders hosted the Spring Thaw baseball tournament March 26-28 and came away with a 1-2 record after the three days of action.

Glide was the big winner, finishing with a 4-0 record.
In the first game of the tournament, Glide shut out the Hilanders 13-0. The Wildcats put three runs on the scoreboard in the first inning and then added five more in both the fourth and seventh innings.
Logan Bailey got the start for Burns and gave up three earned runs on three hits with two walks in three innings of work.
Brennan Bailey pitched the final four innings, giving up seven earned runs on 11 hits while striking out three.
The Hilanders could only muster four hits against the Wildcats, getting singles from Ty Hueckman, B. Bailey, Jeff Garner and Zach Bailey.

 Glide downed Willamina in the second game 15-4.
On the second day, Burns defeated Willamina 16-2.
Burns took control of the game early, scoring five runs in the first inning and adding six more in the second inning. They scored once in the third, and put the game away with four in the fourth.
T. Hueckman had two hits, including a double, and drove in four runs.
Cam Hueckman, Andy Sutcliffe, L. Bailey and B. Bailey all had two hits in the game as Burns pounded out 13 hits in the game.
Garner picked up the win, surrendering one earned run on four hits with one walk and six strike outs.

In the second game, Glide beat Vale 17-1.
Burns had a rematch with Glide on the third day of the tournament, and the Wildcats won 15-1.
Glide put together a six-run rally in the first inning, scored once in the second and added another four runs in the third  and fourth on their way to the five-inning win.
Sutcliffe got the start for Burns and took the loss, giving up six runs, one earned, on five hits in one inning of work.

In the final game, Vale was a 13-3 winner over Willamina.
The Hilanders get back on the diamond Wednesday, April 3, when they host Baker at 3:30 p.m. They then travel to John Day to take on Grant Union at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9.
