Burns opens league play 3-0

The Burns Hilanders swept Umatilla, 7-2 and 10-0, on Friday, April 19, to improve to 3-0 in Eastern Oregon League (EOL)  play.

 
In the opener, the Hilanders took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI-single by Andy Sutcliffe.
 
Burns added two runs in the third and another in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.
 
The Hilanders loaded the bases with one out in the sixth on two walks and a single by Austin Feist, and cleared the bases on a single by Brennan Bailey and Jeff Garner’s fielder’s choice.
 
Umatilla pushed a run across in the seventh for the  final score.
 
Bailey was dominant on the mound, striking out 12 Vikings, while giving up just two hits and walking three.
 
Feist went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored, and Sutcliffe had two hits in three plate appearances.
 
The Hilanders’ Ty Hueckman threw a no-hitter in the second game, facing just two batters over the minimum. He struck out 10, while walking one.
 
Burns jumped on the Vikings early, scoring five runs in the first and adding another run in the second.
 
The game ended early, as the Hilanders put another four runs on the board in the fifth.
 
Bailey had three hits, including two doubles, drove in one run and scored twice. Cody Rebeiro was 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.

Burns played one game at Vale on Tuesday, April 23 (results not available by press time), and travel to Boardman on Friday, April 26, for a doubleheader with Riverside at 2 p.m.

Feist and Hueckman combined on a five-inning no-hitter, as Burns Hilanders opened up EOL action with a convincing 14-1 win over Riverside on Tuesday, April 16, at Corbett Memorial Field.
 
Feist picked up the win, allowing one earned run over four innings with five walks and nine strike outs. Hueckman walked three and struck out two in one inning of relief. 
 
Burns put four runs on the board in the first inning, added a run in the second and put the game away with an eight-run rally in the third.
 
The Hilanders banged out 10 hits in the game, led by B. Bailey, who went 3-for-4, including a double and a triple, and scored three runs. Jeff Garner doubled and singled, had three RBIs and scored twice, and Logan Bailey doubled twice, drove in one run and scored three runs. Sutcliffe had a double, knocked in four runs and scored once.
