Burns girls place 4th as a team, boys 17th

The Hilanders’ Emma Robertson and Madison Winn both won gold medals and helped the Burns girls track team to a fourth-place finish at the OSAA 3A State Track & Field Championships held May 24-25 in Eugene.
Robertson won the state title in the high jump with a leap of 5-05, and Winn was victorious in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in 2:22.95. Winn also placed second in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:57.69.
Madelyn Gunderson took silver in the 400 meters, finishing in 1:00.18.
Burns also picked up points in the two relays. Madison Carson, Megan Lee, Winn and Gunderson combined for a sixth-place finish in the 4×400 (4:19.84) and a seventh-place finish in the 4×100 (52.89).
Vale won the girls 3A state meet with 84 points, followed by Valley Catholic 69, Westside Christian 52, Burns 41 and Dayton 39 in the top five.
For the Burns boys team, Matson Gahley came in fourth in the pole vault (12-09), Seth Nonnenmacher was fourth in the javelin (155-05), and sixth-place finishes went to Peter Cain in the javelin (144-00) and Jeff Davies in the high jump (5-08).
The Burns boys team tied for 17th with 16 points.
Cascade Christian won the 3A boys team title with 85 points, followed by Scio with 60, Westside Christian 56.5, Nyssa 44 and Rainier 34 in the top five.
