TR Hilton, 54, of John Day, died May 8, at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.
TR was born on Sept. 18, 1958, in Arpan, S.D., to Calvin and Jo Ann (Whitmer) Hilton. He graduated from Lake Roosevelt High School in 1977, and attended BMCC and COCC. He was an AHA instructor, State EMS instructor, as well as ACLS, PALS, CPR, first aid, and PHILS.
He was in the Marines for a year, and had been the ambulance director for Blue Mt. Hospital since 1986. TR married Kara Kohfield at Magone Lake on June 24, 2006. He enjoyed hunting, hiking, shooting, reloading for his guns, riding dirt bikes and his road bike, photography, woodworking, welding, running & bicycling. He adored his pet bobcats, loved teaching others. He loved his children and grandchildren and was an inspiration to all.
TR was involved with establishing the Blue Mt. Hospital EMS Program and Grant County Ambulance Services. He served on multiple state EMS committees & advisory boards and was asked to lecture at conferences throughout the state and made a major impact in rural/frontier Emergency Medical Services and the metro area in his instruction. He was awarded Paramedic of the Year twice, EMS educator of the year, EMC Cross and Unit Citations.
TR is survived by his wife, Kara; children, Casey Komning and husband, Danny, of Culver, Ted Hilton and wife, Jessica, of Baker City, Shabri Vignery and husband, Kevin, of Keizer, Rob Smith and wife, Kelly, of Charlotte, N.C., Maddie Hilton of John Day; siblings, Joleen Hankinson and husband, Ed, of Kalispell, Mont., Lloyd Stringfield and wife, Danise, Dean Stringfield and wife, Pam of Rifle, Colo., and Claude Hilton and wife, Laurie, of Electric City, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.
TR was preceded in death by his father, Calvin, and brother, Ward Hilton.
A memorial service was held Friday, May 24, at Grant Union High School.
