Dessel Lorine Meeks, 98, died June 16 in Ontario.
Dessel was born May 18, 1915, on Camp Creek near Prineville. She was the sixth child of Richard Alexander Ammons and Nora Birdsong Ammons. Losing her mother at an early age, she was raised by older siblings.
She met John M. (Bill) Meeks at a dance and was later married on Aug. 12, 1933. They lived in Hampton until 1938, moved to Brothers until 1947, and then on to Burns. After losing her husband in 1969, she continued to reside in Burns until 1985 when she moved to Ontario to be closer to her son and granddaughters.
She was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved rock hounding, dancing and playing pinochle. She belonged to the Senior Centers in both Payette, Idaho, and Ontario, and was a member of the Rebekahs and served as past Grand Noble. She attended the Christian Church.
She is survived by son, Gary (Linda) Meeks, of Ontario; granddaughters, Robyn Meeks of Ontario and Erin (Steven) Messick of Weiser, Idaho; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Chandler, Krista, Spencer, and Mekayla, of Weiser; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and son, Billy.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in Burns, where she will be laid to rest.
