Dig into Japanese history and culture with exchange students at Harney County Library summer reading program starting at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 31.
 
Burns Butte Sportmen’s Club hold their summer twilight practice sessions on Wednesday evenings from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. through the month of September.  There will be people there to help beginners. All levels of experience are welcome.
 
Bring babies to Lapsit Storytime at Harney County Library, 80 W. “D” St., each Wednesday at 10 a.m. Enjoy music, stories, rhymes and fingerplays especially for babies and toddlers.

ALANON, a support group for friends and families of alcoholics, meets each Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Foursquare Church, 74 S. Alvord, Burns. Please use the back door on the south side of the building. All interested are welcome.

Artists/Painters meet each Thursday at 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Harney County Senior Center. Take along projects of all media and work in a good atmoshpere. Mary Lou will be there for projects if needed.
 
A Walking Class is held each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. indoors at the Harney County Senior and Community Services Center.
 
Kiwanis Club of Burns-Hines meets for a no-host luncheon each Thursday at Bella Java, 314 N. Broadway Ave. in Burns, at noon.
 
Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets each Thursday at Hines City Hall, 101 E. Barnes, at noon. Call 541-573-2896.
 
Alcoholics Anonymous holds an open, big book and discussion meeting each Thursday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Church of the Living Water.

Blowin’ in the wind at Harney County Library! Build a wind-powered turbine that recharges batteries at the teen summer reading program from 7-8 p.m. Friday Aug. 2. Free and open to grades 6-12.
 
Harney District Hospital will be holding a Community and Employee Appreciation Event on Friday, Aug. 2, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Washington Park. Join them for a free hamburger/hot dog dinner served from 5 p.m. until it’s gone. Music, a slip & slide, volleyball, lawn games and more! The 2013 Chris Miller Memorial Steens Rim Run and Walk will be held Saturday, Aug. 3. The walk starts at 9:30 a.m. and the run at 10 a.m.

Diabetes Support Group meets at the Harney County Health Building, 420 N. Fairview, the first Saturday of each month at 2 p.m.
 
Harney County Arts and Crafts Association meets the first Saturday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the basement conference room of the Harney County Courthouse. Use the rear building entrance. Artists of any age and artistic medium are welcome to attend. The first hour is art demonstration or workshop. Contact Kate Marsh at 541-573-7204 for more information.
 
Farmers Market from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hines City Park. The market will be held each Saturday into October or until the first hard frost ends the growing season.
