Bike & Build

Posted on July 31st in News

A team of 28 riders with the Bike & Build program arrived in Burns Monday, July 29, on their cross country trip to benefit affordable housing groups, such as Habitat for Humanity. The team, made up of young adults from 17 states, left Charleston, S.C., May 24 on their 81-day trek that will eventually end in Santa Cruz, Calif. Along the way, they will spend 16 days helping to build homes, have four rest days and be biking the remainder of the days. To welcome the team to Harney County, the Burns Elks Lodge served the team dinner Monday night, the Desert Historic Theatre put on a special showing of “Despicable Me 2,” and Ed’s Truck Stop donated food for their trip. The team, which travels anywhere from 40 to 116 miles a day, left early Tuesday morning for Wagontire, its next stop on the journey across the U.S. (Photo by RANDY PARKS)
