Willard (Bill) Roland Leach was born in 1929 in Pine Bluff, Ark., to John and Lucille Leach.

He ran away from home at the age of 9 and joined the circus, bouncing from foster home to foster home, and ended up living on the streets by the age of 17. He joined the Army, and soon after met the short, red-headed spitfire that would capture his heart, and he later married Bertha Leach, his wife of 62 years.

Bill’s best friend of 65 years was BC Ray, whom he had met when they were both young men, and stayed friends until Bill’s last breath.

Bill will be missed by many, including his friends at the Valley Golf Club where he was the oldest active member in the men’s league.

Bill is survived by his sisters-in-law, Roberta Perkins and Evelyn Ray; five children, Scott Leach, and wife, Lorretta, Debbie Boren and husband, Tom, Belinda Garatea and husband, Joe, Glenda Leach and husband, George, and John Leach and wife Mirranda; best friends, BC Ray and Larry Joy; 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

The Leach family will be holding a celebration of life at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Valley Golf Club. It will be a potluck remembrance.

Contributions in Bill Leach’s memory may be made to the Valley Golf Club for fairway and green maintenance.
