He was born Aug. 21, 1951, in Cottonwod Ariz., to Arthur and Jean Gifford. The family moved to Magdalena, N.M., where Billy lived throughout his school years.
Billy joined the Marines on his 18th birthday, and was sent to Vietnam. After getting out of the service, Billy moved around a lot. Eight years ago, he found his way to Burns, and knew he had found his home. He loved living in Burns and had many friends, including his “other family” at Symmetry Care. Billy worked as the groundskeeper at Symmetry care, taking great pride in making sure the grounds were safe and beautiful. He had a wonderful sense of humor, brightening his co-workers’ day with his quick wit and many acts of kindness. Among Billy’s hobbies were hunting for rocks, fishing with friends (especially his “Little Linda”) and hanging out with his family.
Billy is survived by his sisters, Donna Bond and husband, Danny, of Irrigon, and Johnnie George and husband, Steve, of Umatilla; nephews, James Bond, Russell Nelson, Morgan Cody and Forest Day; nieces, Kelly Bond and Julie Nelson; great-nieces, Jordan and Taylor Day; stepmother, Claudette Gifford of Camp Verde, Ariz.; aunt, Arvilla Ainsworth of Arkansas; and many cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Delintment Lake. All family and friends of Billy are invited to attend.
