Don was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Harvey, N.D., the 10th child of Elizabeth LeTournis Toussaint and Dominick Toussaint. He went to high school in Minot, and joined the Navy when he was 18. He became a pilot, and served as a Lieutenant J.G. in the Navy until 1946. Then he flew as a bush pilot with his brother, Ed, for Alaskan Airlines from Ft. Yukon, Alaska.
He met Wilda Schonbrod in Fairbanks, and they were married in 1950. He then worked for several years with City Electric. Wilda left Fairbanks with the children in 1964, and Don came two years later. They lived in McMinnville for a few years, then moved to Portland, where Don worked for Grasle Electric Company until his retirement in the 1990s. He is remembered for his beautiful tenor voice, which he shared with audiences in church and in public, wherever he lived.
Don is survived by his wife, Wilda; four sons, three daughters, three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A funeral Mass will be held at noon May 9 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Gresham.
