He was born in Burns on May 16, 1932, to Morgan and Dot Timms. Eugene married his lifelong best friend, Edna Evans, in 1953.
“Gene” Timms was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He inspired his family to be active community members, and devoted much of his life to helping others. His family and friends will always remember his enthusiasm for life and boisterous sense of humor.
Gene graduated from Burns Union High School in 1950, then proceeded to Willamette University earning a bachelor’s in business. Upon graduating from Willamette University, Gene served in the military. After serving his country, Gene returned to his family business in Burns, Alpine Creamery.
Gene was a civic leader who served in the Oregon senate for 22 years. He was passionate about serving Eastern Oregon, and was instrumental in working toward improvement of rural hospitals, as well as creating opportunities for his district.
Gene Timms is survived by his wife, Edna Timms of Burns; son, Tobi Timms of Bend; daughter, Trina Denson of Portland; four grandchildren, Shelby, Courtney, Justin, and Jackson.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Pioneer Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow.
Donations in memory of Gene may be made to the Kids Club of Harney County.
