The Harney County Chamber Music Society will hold their annual meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Figaro’s Pizza Pub. Public welcome. For more information, contact Toni Brown 801-450-7064.

Burns City Council meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at Burns City Hall, 242 S. Broadway, at 6 p.m.

The city of Burns Public Safety Committee meets the second Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. at the Burns Fire Hall.

The Cancer Support Group will meet on Wednesday, May 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hines City Hall meeting room. The group is open to all cancer patients, survivors, family and support persons. Come learn and share about all types of cancer, ways to manage symptoms, treat side effects and make connections to help you navigate cancer care.

Free cardio-kick classes are offered Wednesday evenings, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Faith Baptist Church. The classes are good for beginning to moderate workouts, and everyone is welcome. For more information call 541-573-7777.

Bring babies to Lapsit Storytime at Harney County Library, 80 W. D St., each Wednesday at 10 a.m. Enjoy music, stories, rhymes and fingerplays especially for babies and toddlers.

A Women’s AA meeting is held every Wednesday at noon at Foursquare Church, 74 S. Alvord, Burns.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Foursquare Church, 74 S. Alvord, Burns.

ALANON, a support group for friends and families of alcoholics, meets each Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Foursquare Church, 74 S. Alvord, Burns. Please use the back door on the south side of the building. All interested are welcome.

Burns Planning Commission meets the third Thursday of each month at Burns City Hall, 242 S. Broadway, at 7 p.m.

Harney County Historical Society meets the third Thursday of each month at the Elks Lodge, 118 N. Broadway, at 11:45 a.m.

A Walking Class is held each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from  10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. indoors at the Harney County Senior and Community Services Center.

Kiwanis Club of Burns-Hines meets for a no-host luncheon at noon each Thursday at Bella Java, 314 N. Broadway in Burns.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets at noon each Thursday at Hines City Hall, 101 E. Barnes. Call 541-573-2896.

Tai Chi for Better Balance with Diane Rapaport is held each Tuesday and Thursday at Harney County Senior and Community Services Center from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — free.

 Hang out with friends at Harney County Library teen late night from 7-9 pm Friday, May 16. Free and open to grades 6-12. 

Oregon Old Time Fiddlers, District 9, meets the first, third and fourth Friday of each month. Call Micky, 541-573-2515, for time and place. A recovery group, “Celebrate Recovery,” meets each Friday at the Harney County Church of the Nazarene, 311 Roe Davis Ave. in Hines. Dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. The main meeting is held at 6 p.m. and small group sessions are at 7 p.m. For more information, call 541-573-7100.

Saturday May 17

The Harney County High School Rodeo will start at 9 a.m Saturday, May 17, and at 8 a.m Sunday, May 18, at the Harney County Fairgrounds. free admission. Breakfast and lunch will be available.

There will be a sporting clays and trap combo shoot, sponsored by the Burns Butte Sportsmen’s Club at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Burns Butte Shooting Range on Radar Hill. Prizes will be awarded by the Lewis Class System, which allows participants to compete at their own skill level. Lunch will be available.

The Harney County Chapter of PEO will feature The Sage Rats, Janet Braymen on hammered dulcimer and Joan Suther on guitar and vocals, in its third annual benefit concert, Saturday, May 17, at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Presbyterian Church, 417 W. Washington in Burns. The Sage Rats play music from bluegrass to Celtic and folk to world with an occasional surprise genre thrown in. All proceeds will go to fund scholarships for Harney County women who are continuing their education. A reception of cookies and punch will follow the concert with time to visit with the performers.
