Harney County Health District board of directors meets the fourth Wednesday of each month in the board conference room of the hospital, in the entrance off N. Grand, at 6 p.m.

Burns City Council meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at Burns City Hall, 242 South Broadway, at 6 p.m.

High Desert Park and Recreation District board of directors meets the fourth Wednesday of each month in their office at Lincoln Junior High School, 550 North Court, at 7 p.m.

A Bone Health Nutrition Workshop sponsored by The Aspens and Harney District Hospital will be held on July 29 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Aspens Conference Room. Learn all the ways calcium improves your nutrition and ways to work it into your diet. The workshop will feature Sonni Svejcar and the “Better Bones and Balance” program. Harney County Save A Stray will have an adoption event on July 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Big R. We have several kittens ages 3 to 4 months old up for adoption to good homes. These kittens will be spayed and neutered, had their first shot and de-wormed. We have all colors and also may have a few adult cats. A small adoption fee will be asked to cover the cost of the altering and shot.

A class reunion for the 1949 and 1950 Burns Union High School graduates will be held at Silver Creek Falls State Park, east of Salem, in conjunction with the annual Harney County Picnic on Aug. 1. A Smoky Pritchett Reined Cowhorse Clinic will be held at 8 a.m. at the Bell A Ranch, in conjunction with the Shelman Family Ranch and Performance Horse Sale. Following the clinic the Horse Sale Open House Preview will begin follwed by a stockdog demonstration given by Eric Wanman, who had the 2010 high-selling stock dog in Red Bluff, Calif. At 5 p.m. the Shelman Horse Sale Team Roping Preview will begin at the Harney County Fairgrounds, followed immediately by a barbecue featuring Buermann’s Ranch Meats. Everyone is welcome.

The Harney County Health Department will be available at the Harney County Senior Center, 17 South Alder, to check blood pressure the fourth Monday of each month from 1-3 p.m. There is no charge for the clinic and results can be forwarded to a physician or nurse practitioner at your request.

Harney County Library Advisory Board meets the last Monday of each month (except for those dates that fall on national holidays) in the library, 80 West D St., at 6 p.m. The public is welcome to attend. Use the back door to the left. For more information, call 541-573-7339.

Harney District Hospital will hold a free Physical Therapy Sports Injury Clinic on Monday evenings throughout July. Students experiencing muscle or joint pain due to sports activities will be seen by a physical therapist who will assess injuries and offer recommendations for treatment. High Desert Medical Center’s Dr. Holland Haynie will also be available. To take advantage of this free clinic, call 541-573-1543 to schedule a time to be seen.

Order of Eastern Star meets the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Burns Masonic Hall, 1210 West Taylor, at 7:30 p.m.

Harney County Search and Rescue meets the fourth Monday of each month at the Search and Rescue Building, at 7 p.m.

Burns Fire Dept. meets each Monday at the Burns Fire Hall at 7 p.m.
