Burns Hines Liquor Store holds a free wine-tasting event the last Wednesday of each month, at 6 p.m.

An open house honoring Justice of the Peace Dewey Newton, who is retiring effective Aug. 31, will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 2 p.m. in the Harney County Courthouse lobby. Everyone is welcome to attend and say thank you to Judge Newton for his years of service to Harney County.

Bring babies to Lapsit Storytime at Harney County Library each Wednesday at 10 a.m. Enjoy music, stories, rhymes and fingerplays especially for babies and toddlers.

The Harney County Cooperative Weed Management Area will hold the annual weedy evening event at the Burns Elks Lodge on Thursday, Aug. 25. The focus this year is on the identification, control and management of Medusahead rye. Presenters will include Zola Ryan of the NRCS, Dustin Johnson of the OSU ag extension and Lesley Richman of Burns BLM. All interested are welcome. Social time will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Dinner will be provided and prepared by the Harney County CattleWomen. For more information, call 541-573-8385.

Disabled Services Advisory Council (DSAC) meets every fourth Thursday at the State Office Building small conference room, 809 West Jackson, at 1:30 p.m.

Registration forms and rules for both the 42nd annual Demolition Derby and the 4th ATV Rodeo can be picked up at the fairgrounds office.Pre-registration is advised for both events. The events will be held on Aug. 27, beginning at 1 p..m. for the ATV Rodeo and at 6 p.m. for the Demolition Derby.

The Farmers Market is held each Saturday at Hines Park from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Registration for Awana Clubs will be held on Monday, Aug. 29, at Faith Baptist Church, 777 N. Saginaw, Hines, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Awana is one of the largest nondenominational children’s and youth ministries in the world. Awana invites all children from age 3 (by Sept. 1) through sixth grade.
