The American Legion Harney County Post #63 meets at 63 W. “C” Street the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.

Harney County Watershed Council meets the third Tuesday of each month at the EOARC (Section 5) on Hwy. 205 in the conference room at 5:30 p.m.

Sylvia Rebekah Lodge meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at the I.O.O.F. Hall, 348 N. Broadway, at 6:30 p.m.

Harney County Preppers, a group to help people get going and stay going in their preparedness, meets the third Tuesday of the month every other month in the courthouse basement meeting room from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

An Infant/Toddler Play Group is held each Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Early Childhood Center for children ages birth to three. For more information, call 541-573-6461.

Free income tax preparation and assistance is available for taxpayers age 60+ and low and middle-income taxpayers of any age through the AARP Tax-Aide program. Trained volunteers will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, until April 15. at the Harney County School District No. 3 administrative office to prepare tax returns or assist with questions. Harney Basin Writers meets each Tuesday from noon until 4 p.m. in room 302 of the former Lincoln School, corner of A Street and Court Ave. in Burns. Elevator on the south side. Quiet writing time until 2 p.m., then readings begin. Adults of any writing style are welcome to attend.

A Walking Class is held each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from  10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. indoors at the Harney County Senior and Community Services Center.

Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance Program (SHIBA) trained volunteers will be at the Harney County Senior Center each Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call the senior center at 541-573-6024.

Tai Chi for Better Balance with Diane Rapaport is held each Tuesday at Harney County Senior and Community Services Center from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — free.

Harney County Court meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Harney County Courthouse, 450 North Buena Vista, at 10 a.m.

The Harney County Community Response Team (CRT) meets the first Wednesday of every month from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Community Center, 484 N. Broadway. The CRT consists of anyone interested in what is going on in the county as it relates to business and industry. County, city and tribal leaders provide general information to the public regarding xisting programs and recruitment efforts.

High Desert Park and Recreation District board of directors meets the first Wednesday of each month in their office at Ponderosa Village, at 7 p.m.

Burns Elks Lodge, 118 N. Broadway, meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Non-denominational Bible services are held Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. at Hines City Hall. Ministers are Jane Buell and Cheryl Emborg.

Free cardio-kick classes are offered Wednesday evenings, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Faith Baptist Church. The classes are good for beginning to moderate workouts, and everyone is welcome. For more information call 541-573-7777.

Be a quitter…a tobacco quitter, that is! Join this support group to develop strategies to quit successfully and access all the resources available to help you. Celebrate National Poetry Month Thursday, April 3, at Harney County Library! Madras author, Jarold Ramsey, will lead a celebration of William Stafford with a personal introduction to the writer and his poetry. Everyone is invited to join in this statewide promotion of a former Oregon Poet Laureate by reading a Stafford poem, one of your own or just enjoying what others read. Program begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free. Refreshments will be served.

Saturday April 5

There will be a “Make An Offer” fundraising yard sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 5, in the Slater School cafeteria. The fifth graders are putting on the yard sale, and all proceeds will go toward their field trip.

A Veterans lunch will be served at the Hampton Station Cafe the first Saturday of each month. RSVP  by calling Shelley at 541-420-0828.

Diabetes Support Group meets at the Harney County Health Building, 420 N. Fairview, the first Saturday of each month at 2 p.m.

Waggin’ Tales is held the first and third Saturday of the month at Harney County Library from 2-3 p.m. Please call the library, 541-573-6670, for an appointment if your child would like to read with a dog.

Harney County Arts and Crafts Association meets the first Saturday of each month in the basement conference room of the Harney County Courthouse. On Saturday, April 5, they will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Use the rear building entrance. Artists of any age and artistic medium are welcome to attend. A free benefit concert will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Burns High School. The event is a senior project, raising money for the Kids Club of Harney County. Donations will be accepted.
