Burns High School will be holding their spring sports award banquet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, in the cafeteria. It will be a dessert potluck.

Oregon Hunter’s Association meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Glory Days Pizza. There will be a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to a local merchant for all members present.

Silvies River Spinners meets the first Tuesday of each month in the Harney County Courthouse basement meeting room at 5:30 p.m.

Harney Hospital Foundation meets the first Tuesday of each month in the Hospital Conference Room at 7 p.m.

Sylvia Rebekah Lodge meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at the I.O.O.F. Hall, 348 N. Broadway, at 6:30 p.m.

Harney County Democratic Party meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Harney County Courthouse, 450 N. Buena Vista, at 7 p.m.

Harney Basin Writers meets each Tuesday from noon until 4 p.m. at the former Lincoln Junior High School in room 302. Use the front entrance, at the corner of Court Avenue and A Street. Writers of any age and writing style are welcome to attend. Readings begin at 3 p.m.

Tai Chi for Better Balance with Diane Rapaport is held each Tuesday at Harney County Senior and Community Services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — free.

Harney County Soil and Water Conservation District board of directors meets the fourth Thursday of each month at the USDA Service Center in Hines at 4:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Artists/Painters meet each Thursday at 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Harney County Senior Center. Take along projects of all media and work in a good atmoshpere. Mary Lou will be there for projects if needed.

Burns FFA plant sale will be held Friday, May 24, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the BHS greenhouse. The greenhouse is located on the north end of the campus behind the metal shop. Join Harney District Hospital and celebrate their emergency team with a barbecue and Open House on Friday, May 24, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the EMS Department of Harney District Hospital. Hang out with friends at Harney County Library teen late night from 7-9 pm. Free and open to grades 6-12.

Ivy Warren, 25 E. Madison, will be hosting an artists reception on Friday, May 24. The featured artist will be Alicia Andrews.

Big Bear Lodge is hosting a horseshoe tournament at 6 p.m. every Friday night. The winner of the tournament will take home 1/2 of the entry fees, with the other 1/2 going to a local charity chosen by the winner.

Harney District Hospital will hold a free Physical Therapy Sports Injury Clinic Monday evening May 27. Students experiencing muscle or joint pain due to sports activities will be seen by a physical therapist to assess injuries and offer recommendations for treatment. To take advantage of this free clinic, call the physical therapy office at 541-573-1543 to schedule a time to be seen.

A Grief Support Group is held the second and fourth Monday of each month by Harney County Hospice and Rev. Jean Hurst during the day as well as the evening. For more information, call Harney County Hospice, 541-573-8360.

The Harney County Health Department is available at the Harney County Senior Center, 17 S. Alder, to check blood pressure the fourth Monday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There is no charge for the clinic and results can be forwarded to a physician or nurse practitioner at your request.

Harney County Search and Rescue meets the fourth Monday of each month at the Search and Rescue Building at 7 p.m.

Harney District Hospital and the Harney County Senior Center are sponsoring a six-class workshop series designed to make nutrition and activity a vital part of your lifestyle. The sixth and final session, ‘Physical Activity is Key to Living Well’ will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Harney County Senior and Community Services Center Tuesday, May 28, and will teach you the importance of activity to your daily health. Harney Soil & Water Conservation District will hold an Executive Session, under ORS # 192.610(2)(f) for the sole purpose of considering information or records that are exempt by law from public inspection, at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 15. The meeting will be held at the Crane Union High School multi-purpose room in Crane.

“The Intouchables,” will be presented by Coyote Cinema Wednesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. at the Old Bakery, on the second floor at 255 N. Broadway in Burns. Based on a true story, the film was a Golden Globe Nominee for Best Foreign Language Film in 2013. Popcorn and admission are free, but donations will be accepted.

A Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect class will be held on Wednesday, May 15, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the CCR&R office, 503 S. Diamond in Burns. This class is required to become a registered Family Child Care Provider. The class is free and open to the public.
