Burns Sportsman Club will present Twilight Trap Practice every Wednesday night, beginning on June 4 from 5-7 p.m. at the shooting facility on Radar Hill. Members and non-members are welcome to participate.

Burns-Hines School District 3 budget committee will meet at 7 p.m., at the District Office, 550 N. Court Avenue.

A book club for fifth- through eighth-grade students is held each Wednesday at the Harney County Library, from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

All businesses and potential businesses in Harney County are invited to participate in the monthly meeting of the Harney County Business Roundtable at the Education Service District’s meeting room the first Wednesday of each month from 7:30-9 a.m. A table will be available for distribution of brochures and business cards.

Storytime for preschoolers is held Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Harney County Library.

Three members of the Crane track team were among the 18 competitors at the annual decathlon competition held at Sweet Home High School on Friday and Saturday, March 28-29.

The Mustangs’ Matt Holloway placed second overall with 5,215 points, Jordan Conaway placed third with 4,785 points and Jeran Conaway was eighth with 4,033 points.

The overall winner was Dakotah Keys of Sweet Home, who was a national champion last year as a freshman.

She was born in Burns and was a resident of Sun Valley, Nev.

Howard is survived by her husband, Bill, of 41 years; daughter, Teresa (Chris) and Paul; two grandchildren; two sisters; numerous nieces and nephews; and many caring friends.

At Howard’s request, in lieu of flowers, contributions are appreciated in her memory to the Veteran’s Guest House, 990 Locust St., Reno, NV 89502.

A reception in Howard’s memory will be held March 28 at the Reno Elks Lodge from noon to 3 p.m.


A Parkinson’s Disease Support Group meets the second Thursday of each month at the Harney County Senior Center, at 10:30 a.m. For more information, call Mike at 573-6914.

The local chapter of the Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Association (OVMA) meets at Egans, on Highway 20 in Hines, the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The OVMA was established to promote Veterans, Veterans issues and motorcycling. The public is welcome to attend. As weather permits they will be conducting weekend motorcycle runs throughout the local area.

The Prescription Assistance program through the Harney County Senior and Community Services Center is held each Thursday, from 1-3 p.m. Call Selena Westlake at 573-6024 to make an appointment.

Boxing is held each Friday from 2-4 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club. The fundamentals of boxing are taught to kids. Permission slips must be turned in prior to participation in this program.

Hines Middle School Reading Club meets each Friday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Harney County Library.

The Boys & Girls Club has the Club Bucks Store open each Friday. This is an incentive program in which members earn “club bucks” by doing good deeds and helping out around the club.

Narcotics Anonymous holds an open meeting each Monday at 7 p.m. at Foursquare Church.

HDH Sports & Physical Therapy will offer a free athletic injury clinic at that facility, 559 West Washington, every Monday from 5-6 p.m. A physical therapist will assess and treat athletic injuries and provide education for athletes and parents on self management of injuries.
