The community is invited to join The Aspens Social Hour, on Thursday, April 23, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Snacks and refreshments will be provided to family, friends, volunteers and anyone interested in seeing what The Aspens has to offer seniors in the community.

Disabled Services Advisory Council (DSAC) meets every fourth Thursday at the State Office Building small conference room, 809 West Jackson, at 1:30 p.m.

Harney County Soil and Water Conservation District board of directors will hold their regular meeting on April 23, at the USDA Service Center in Hines, at 3 p.m. The facility is ADA compliant and the public is welcome to attend. There will be a 10 minute public comment period at the start of the meeting. Agenda items will include a report by the Oregon Department of Agriculture on pending budgetary cuts, and a report from the USDA Natural Resource conservation Service on the Grasslands Reserve sign up.

Tai Chi is held every Thursday at the Harney County Senior and Community Services Center, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. All ages are welcome to participate.

Kiwanis Club of Burns-Hines meets for a no-host luncheon each Thursday at Glory Days Pizza, 690 Oregon Avenue, at noon.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets each Thursday at Hines City Hall, 101 East Barnes, at noon. Call 573-2896.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Thursday at the Foursquare Church, at 7 p.m.


Friday, April 24

Kindergarten Roundup for Crane Elementary will be held on April 24 from 9-10:30 a.m. Call the school office at 493-2641 if you have not been notified and your child plans to attend.

Teen Late Night at Harney County Library will be held on April 24, from 6-9 p.m. Music, snacks and games will be followed by a special performance of scary stories by Christopher Leebrick. Join Leebrick for an evening of fright and fun, featuring an award-winning performance of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart” and other scary tales. Recommended for ages 10 and up.

A volunteer appreciation dinner will be held at the Senior Center on April 24, at noon. The dinner will honor all of the volunteers who have helped at the Senior Center during the past year.

Burns Postmaster Gary Johnson is retiring, and the community is invited to the Burns Post Office on April 24 from 1-4 p.m. for cake and punch and an opportunity to say farewell.

Oregon Old Time Fiddlers, District 9, meets the first, third and fourth Friday of each month. Call Julia at 573-2770, for time and place.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Friday at Foursquare Church at 7 p.m.


Saturday, April 25

Harney Basin Writers will present B. Marie Jarreau-Danner, on Saturday, April 25, from 7-9 p.m., at the Ranch Art Gallery. Admission is free, and donations will be accepted to benefit the Harney County Writer-In-Residence program.

Blue Moon Productions’ presentation of “Its all in the Cards,”  has been canceled.

The Hines Volunteer Fire Department is seeking donations of quality merchandise for their second annual fund-raising “help us help you” garage sale being held on Saturday, April 25. Funds raised by the sale will help to obtain a modern fire truck to replace an aging 1974 fire engine.  Call Chief Bob Spence at 573-2975 or any Hines firefighter to make a donation.

Alanon holds an open meeting each Saturday at Foursquare Church at 7 p.m.

Monday, April 27

The Harney County Health Department will be available at the Harney County Senior Center, 17 South Alder, to check blood pressure the fourth Monday of each month from 1-3 p.m. There is no charge for the clinic and results can be forwarded to a physician or nurse practitioner at your request.

Order of Eastern Star meets the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Burns Masonic Hall, 1210 West Taylor, at 7:30 p.m.

Harney County Library Advisory Board meets the last Monday of each month (except for those dates that fall on national holidays) in the library, 80 West D St., at 6 p.m. The public is welcome to attend. Use the back door to the left. For more information, call 573-7339.

HDH Sports & Physical Therapy will offer a free athletic injury clinic at that facility, 559 West Washington, every Monday from 5-6 p.m. A physical therapist will assess and treat athletic injuries and provide education for athletes and parents on self management of injuries. The Hines Volunteer Fire Department meets at the Hines Fire Hall each Monday at 7 p.m. (except the last Monday of the month). Prospective members may contact Fire Chief Bob Spence at 573-7477 or 573-2251.

The Burns Lions Club meets each Monday at noon at the Burns Elks Lodge, 118 N. Broadway, for lunch. Those interested in serving the community are welcome.

Narcotics Anonymous holds an open meeting each Monday at 7 p.m. at Foursquare Church.


Tuesday, April 28

The breast cancer support group meeting scheduled for April 28 has been canceled. The regular meetings will resume next month.

Souper Supper is held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, at 6 p.m., at the Community Center. For more information, call Lori at 573-2863.

Patient Assist, Needy Med Program trained volunteers will be at the Harney County Senior Center each Tuesday, from 1-4 p.m. For appointments call the Senior Center at 573-6024.

Boy Scout Troop 440, sponsored by the Burns Lion’s Club, meets each Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the LDS Church in Hines. Boys ages 11-18 are welcome to join.

In conjunction with the Oregon Is Indian Country exhibit at Old Camp Casino, Robert Tooke of the Burns Paiute Tribe will demonstrate flint-knapping/arrowhead making and flute making from 1-2:30 p.m. on April 8.

The local chapter of the Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Association (OVMA) will meet at Hines City Hall, at 7 p.m. on April 9. The OVMA was established to promote veterans, veterans issues and motorcycling. The public is welcome to attend. As weather permits they will be conducting weekend motorcycle runs throughout the local area.

The American Legion Harney County Post #63 meets at the National Guard Armory, the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.

The  annual Zeta Sigma Phi Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 11, at 10 a.m. at the Hines Park. Ages 1-8 are welcome to join in the hunt. Donations will also be accepted during the Easter egg hunt for non-perishable food contributions for the local food bank.

Harney County Relative Collectors Genealogy Group meets on the second Saturday of the month, at the Harney County Library from 9:30-11:30 a.m. There is no cost to join the fun. For more information, call 573-3258, and leave a message for Richard.

The Harney County Radio Association meets every second Saturday of the month, at 10 a.m., in the basement meeting room of the Harney County Courthouse.
