High Desert 9-12 Patriots will meet on Thursday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m., in the Harney County Courthouse meeting room. Anyone who is  interested in the aims and values of the national 9-12 Project, regardless of their political affiliations, is welcome to attend. Dr. Tom Fitzpatrick and the Mobile Health Clinic, sponsored by Harney District Hospital, will be in Fields and Frenchglen on Dec. 18. They will be at the Fields School from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and at the Frenchglen School from 1:30 to 4 p.m. This is a full-service health clinic that comes to you. Appointments are encouraged to ensure adequate time, supplies and equipment, but walk-ins are welcome. Call the High Desert Medical Center at 573-8894 to schedule an appointment, and bring your insurance information to assure proper billing.

Oregon Old Time Fiddlers, District 9, meets the first, third and fourth Friday of each month. Call Julia at 573-2770, for time and place.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets each Friday at 5 p.m. at Harney Behavior Health, and at 7 p.m. at Four Square Church.

Friday Morning Book Club with Lisa, a new program for kids ages 7-10, will be held at the Harney County Library from 9-10 a.m. The program will include stories and crafts.

Harney County Cattlewomen will hold a beef promotion featuring prime rib roasts at Erickson’s Thriftway on Saturday, Dec. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Great Basin Saddle Club will hold its annual award banquet on Dec.19, at 4 p.m. at Glory Days Pizza. Awards for the 2009 season will be handed out, and there will also be a business meeting and election of officers. Members who would like to participate in the gift exchange are asked to bring a gift ($20 or less). For more information, call 413-0075.

Masonic Lodge meets the first and third Monday of each month at the Burns Masonic Lodge, 1210 West Taylor, at 7 p.m.

Senior Health Insurance Benefits Insurance (SHIBA) will be at the Harney County Senior and Community Services Center every Monday and Tuesday through the month of December, from 1-4 p.m., for sign up of new Medicare D insurance, or to have old plans reviewed. Assistance for Medicare questions will also be available. For appointments, call the Senior Center at 573-6024.

HDH Sports & Physical Therapy will offer a free athletic injury clinic at that facility, 559 West Washington, every Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. A physical therapist will assess and treat athletic injuries and provide education for athletes and parents on self management of injuries. Burns Fire Dept. meets each Monday at the Burns Fire Hall at 7 p.m.

The Hines Volunteer Fire Department meets at the Hines Fire Hall each Monday at 7 p.m. (except the last Monday of the month). Prospective members may contact Fire Chief Bob Spence at 573-7477 or 573-2251.

Harney County Watershed Council meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at the EOARC (Section 5) on Hwy. 205 in the conference room at 5:30 p.m.

Harney County Chamber Music Society Choir meets the second and fourth Tuesday, September-November and January-March. The choir meets in the Burns High School band room, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., with Marianne Andrews directing. Singers ages 13-up are welcome.

Tai Chi is held every Tuesday at the Harney County Senior and Community Services Center, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. All ages are welcome to participate.

All 0 to 3-year-olds and their parents are welcome to attend play group at the Early Childhood Center at 655 W. Fillmore, weekly on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Patient Assist, Needy Med Program trained volunteers will be at the Harney County Senior Center each Tuesday, from 1-4 p.m. For appointments call the Senior Center at 573-6024.

Boy Scout Troop 440, sponsored by the Burns Lion’s Club, meets each Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the LDS Church in Hines. Boys ages 11-18 are welcome to join.

Harney County Christmas Parade in Burns on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m.

Desert Historic Theatre will hold a canned food movie on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. Admission to see the movie “Planet 51” will be two or more cans of food, which will be delivered to the Elks for their Christmas baskets.

Harney Safe Communities and Safe Kids Coalition and the Burns Fire Department are offering a free child car seat safety clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Burns Fire Station, 242 S. Broadway.

Harney County Relative Collectors Genealogy Group meets on the second Saturday of the month, at the Harney County Library from 9:30-11:30 a.m. There is no cost to join the fun. For more information, call 573-3258, and leave a message for Richard.

The Harney County Radio Association meets every second Saturday of the month, at 10 a.m., in the basement meeting room of the Harney County Courthouse.
