Hines Middle School will hold an open house from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Students who attend will receive $500 lock-in bucks. Parents and students should meet in the gym at 6 p.m. for a short introduction and information.

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive in Hines, Sept. 14,  at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 600 N. Saginaw. Hours for the drive will be noon to 5 p.m.

A non-profit board training will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Harney County Chamber of Commerce meeting room. The attorney general’s guidance on board service will hold a session to explore the legal duties, rights and responsibilities of volunteer board members in governing charitable and other non-profit organizations under Oregon law. Burns Butte Sportsmen’s Club will present the “Last Chance” sporting clay event (100 birds) on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Radar Hill Range. Registration will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Shooting will start with the sign up of the first squad. Lewis Class Rules will be used (shoot with your own level). Door prizes have been donated by B&B Sporting Goods and Great Basin Sporting Goods. Lunch will be available.

The Ambulance Chaser Bike Ride will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17. All proceeds will be used for a replacement ambulance. The ride will feature two courses, both beginning and ending at Triangle Park — a family-friendly 8.8 mile Lifesaver Loop or a more challenging 16.6 mile Code Blue ride. Code Blue begins at 9 a.m. and Lifesaver Loop begins at 9:30 a.m. For more information, call Judy Erwin, Harney District Hospital at 541-573-8332.

Great Basin Saddle Club will hold the third buckle show on Sept. 18, at the Harney County Fairgrounds, starting at 9 a.m. with showmanship and English. A recovery group, “Celebrate Recovery,” meets each Sunday at the Harney County Church of The Nazarene, 311 Roe Davis Ave., in Hines. Nutrition Tuesday will be held on Sept. 20, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Harney District Hospital board conference room. HDH is sponsoring a “Back to School Nutrition” workshop.
