The Shelman Family Spring Special Horse Sale, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Shelman Ranch on Highway 20 East.

A free Heart Saver First Aid/CPR class, sponsored by Harney District Hospital (HDH) will be held Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Racine Building conference room. Those attending will learn how to approach an emergency situation confidently with comprehensive Heart Saver First Aid / CPR / AED training with HDH Paramedic Greta Emang. A live auction to raise funds for the Oregon Beef Ambassador Program, in conjunction with the Shelman Family Horse Sale at the Cory Shelman ranch. The Oregon Beef Ambassador Program is a unique opportunity for our youth to be a spokeperson for the beef industry and our way of life. The Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers jam in April has been moved to the third Sunday of the month. Potluck and jam beginning at 1 p.m. on April 21 at the Harney County Senior and Community services Center. The next jam will be held May 12, and the group will then take a break until October.

A free community dinner (eat in or take out, no strings attached) will be offered Sunday, April 21, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Christian Church, 125 S. Buena Vista in Burns. For more information, call 541-573-2216.

Harney County Library presents local, award-winning cowboy poet, Jessica Hedges. Enjoy an evening hearing real life stories of working cows, riding horses, and training dogs from a woman’s point of view. This free program starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 23. Miss Lisa  will provide free childcare.

Kindergarten Roundup at Crane Elementary will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in Mrs. Martinez’ room.

“The Big Year,” a comedy about obsessed, amateur bird watchers, will be presented by Coyote Cinema Wednesday, April 10, at 7 p.m. at the Old Baker, on the second floor at 255 N. Broadway in Burns. Popcorn and admission are free, but donations will be accepted.
 
The HDH Cancer Support Group is open to all cancer patients, survivors, family and support persons. Participants learn and share about all types of cancer, ways to manage symptoms, side effects of treatment and connections to help navigate cancer care. The High Desert Cutters will hold their first cutting of the year Saturday, April 13, at the Roaring Springs Ranch. A herd work clinic will start at 9 a.m. with classifying to follow. After the cutting classes, there will be reining, boxing and cutting practice runs. A new Craftsman’s Class has been added this year.
