Parents of children ages birth to 5 are invited to bring their children to a free community developmental screening from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Early Childhood Center, 655 W. Fillmore in Burns. Appointments are not necessary.

 
Harney County Soil and Water Conservation District board of directors meets the fourth Thursday of each month at the USDA Service Center in Hines at 4:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Interested in helping your community during a disaster? Volunteer with the American Red Cross. There is an initial disaster services training on Friday, Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the chamber of commerce meeting Room at 484 N. Broadway in Burns. Please get registered by filling out the volunteer application online at www.redcross.org/bend and signing up for the Oct. 25 orientation in the system. Please come and see how you can get involved with the Red Cross.

 
Reading Club meets at the Harney County Library each Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. Open to 2nd- through 5th-grade students. For more information, call 541-573-6670.

Spooktacular fun awaits kids in grades K-5 at Harney County Library’s Halloween party and haunted house Saturday, Oct. 27, from 6-7:30 pm. Come in costume! Kids younger than second grade must be accompanied by a parent.

Burns Butte Sportsmen’s Club is sponsoring their October Trap shoot Saturday, Oct. 26. The event will be held at the trap range on Radar Hill, and will feature fun and games. Practice starts at 9:30 a.m. Community members of all levels of shooting are welcome to participate. Lunch will be available.

 
Farmers Market from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hines City Park. The market will be held each Saturday into October or until the first hard frost ends the growing season.

The Harney County Health Department is available at the Harney County Senior Center, 17 S. Alder, to check blood pressure the fourth Monday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There is no charge for the clinic and results can be forwarded to a physician or nurse practitioner at your request.

 
Harney County Search and Rescue meets the fourth Monday of each month at the Search and Rescue Building at 7 p.m.
