Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance Program (SHIBA) trained volunteers will be at the Harney County Senior Center each Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call the senior center at 541-573-6024.

Tai Chi for Better Balance with Diane Rapaport is held each Tuesday and Thursday at Harney County Senior and Community Services Center from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — free.

The city of Burns Public Safety Committee meets the second Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. at the Burns Fire Hall.

The Cancer Support Group will meet on Wednesday, May 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hines City Hall meeting room. The group is open to all cancer patients, survivors, family and support persons. Come learn and share about all types of cancer, ways to manage symptoms, treat side effects and make connections to help you navigate cancer care.

Free cardio-kick classes are offered Wednesday evenings, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Faith Baptist Church. The classes are good for beginning to moderate workouts, and everyone is welcome. For more information call 541-573-7777.

Oregon Old Time Fiddlers, District 9, meets the first, third and fourth Friday of each month. Call Micky, 541-573-2515, for time and place. A recovery group, “Celebrate Recovery,” meets each Friday at the Harney County Church of the Nazarene, 311 Roe Davis Ave. in Hines. The Harney County High School Rodeo will start at 9 a.m Saturday, May 17, and at 8 a.m Sunday, May 18, at the Harney County Fairgrounds. free admission. Breakfast and lunch will be available.

There will be a sporting clays and trap combo shoot, sponsored by the Burns Butte Sportsmen’s Club at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Burns Butte Shooting Range on Radar Hill. Prizes will be awarded by the Lewis Class System, which allows participants to compete at their own skill level. Lunch will be available.

The Harney County Chapter of PEO will feature The Sage Rats, Janet Braymen on hammered dulcimer and Joan Suther on guitar and vocals, in its third annual benefit concert, Saturday, May 17, at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Presbyterian Church, 417 W. Washington in Burns. The Sage Rats play music from bluegrass to Celtic and folk to world with an occasional surprise genre thrown in. All proceeds will go to fund scholarships for Harney County women who are continuing their education. A reception of cookies and punch will follow the concert with time to visit with the performers. The Harney County Community Response Team (CRT) meets the first Wednesday of every month from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Community Center, 484 N. Broadway. The CRT consists of anyone interested in what is going on in the county as it relates to business and industry. County, city and tribal leaders provide general information to the public regarding xisting programs and recruitment efforts.

Folklorist Douglas Manger will present folk and traditional arts and artists in a presentation at the Harney Co. Library on Thursday, May 8, starting at 6 p.m.  Along with discussions of his interviews, Manger will show slides of cultural and folk traditions he has documented since arriving in Harney County. An Oregon’s QRIS Increasing Quality Training class will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the Child Care Resource & Referral office, 503 S. Diamond in Burns. This is the first step in participation in Oregon’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). Participants will learn about the QRIS process, criteria, benefits, including free tools, financial incentives, and professional advice. Class is free and open to the public.
