Chamber Music Society will hold their annual meeting on May 12 at Glory Days Pizza. Social time will begin at 6 p.m., with the meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

The Harney County Cancer Support Group meets the second Wednesday of each month at Glory Days Pizza, on Highway 20 in Burns, at 4 p.m. For more information, call Tonny Calloway, evenings, at 541-573-7867.

Meet Andi Harmon, author of Oregon’s Living Legends, at the Harney County Library on May 13. Harmon’s experiences with the BLM Wild Horse and Burro program led her to write a book about the wild horses of Oregon. Her presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Copies of Oregon’s Living Legends will be available for purchase and the author will be available for book signing.

Oregon OSHA Public Education Workshops will be held on Thursday, May 13, at the Harney County Community Center. The first workshop, 101 Introduction to Safety Meetings and Committees, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon. The second workshop, 302 Excavation Safety, will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. There is no charge, but registration is required. Living Well with Chronic Conditions will be held each Thursday, May 13 through June 17, sponsored by Harney District Hospital. The annual Harney County Health Fair will be held Saturday, May 15, in the Memorial Building at the Harney County Fairgrounds. Fasting blood draw exams will be available from 6:45-10 a.m, and booths will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn all about staying healthy in your community. The fair will feature free and reduced-cost health screenings and over 25 informational booths featuring ways to take care of your health and wellness. Door prizes will be presented throughout the event, plus a free Subway lunch. For more information, contact Toni at 541-573-8310.

The Burns Butte Sportsman’s Club will hold a May Playday on Saturday, May 15, at the trap range on Radar Hill. Practice begins at 9:30 a.m., with the shoot starting at 10 a.m. All levels of shooters are welcome. Lunch will be available.

The Greater Oregon Federal Credit Union annual membership dinner will be held at the Burns Elks Lodge at 6 p.m. May 15.

Some Enchanted Evening Wine Tasting and Silent Auction will be held on May 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Harney County Community Center. Join the Harney County Opportunity Team for an enjoyable evening sampling select wines provided by 90+ Wines and Broadway Deli, hors d’oeuvres prepared by Rhojo’s, and special music performed by Bailey Johnston and members of the local music community. Pre-sale tickets only available at the Chamber of Commerce, Beauty on Broadway, Teague Motor Co., Gourmet & Gadgets, Broadway Deli and Bank of Eastern Oregon.

An art show will be held in Seneca, during the annual Oyster Feed, on May 15. Art will be received on Friday, May 14, from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Saturday, May 15, from 8 to 9 a.m. Artists are encouraged to bring their own easels. Masonic Lodge meets the first and third Monday of each month at the Burns Masonic Lodge, 1210 West Taylor, at 7 p.m.

HDH Sports & Physical Therapy will offer a free athletic injury clinic at that facility, 559 West Washington, every Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. A physical therapist will assess and treat athletic injuries and provide education for athletes and parents on self management of injuries. Harney District Hospital is sponsoring “Body Composition: What It Says about Your Health,” an informative free workshop that provides a bio-impedence analysis of your body and explains what each measurement means, on Tuesday, May 18, from 5-6 p.m. in the HDH Board Room. A workshop for all vendors interested in potentially supplying needs and services to firefighters during the 2010 wildfire season has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 5, at 10 a.m. at the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) office in Hines. A Community Social to discuss options available for the community’s unemployed, underemployed and laid off workforce will be held on Thursday, May 6, from noon to 4 p.m at the Harney County Senior Center. All community members are invited to attend.  A panel of workforce specialists will be available to provide information about programs for laid off workers and anyone else who wants to skill up, but isn’t quite certain what resources are available to them to pursue a career path. The public is encouraged to attend to find out more about these opportunities. Lunch and a chance to win prizes will be available.

A Merchants Meeting will be held on May 6 at 8 a.m. at the Harney County Community Center.

Dr. Tom Fitzpatrick and the Mobile Health Clinic will be visiting Drewsey and Crane on Thursday, May 6. They will be located in the Drewsey Community Hall from 9 a.m. to noon and the Crane Modular Annex from 1 to 4 p.m.
