Sports Nutrition for Young Athletes, an informative workshop which focuses on providing the best nutrition for your student athlete will be held on Tuesday, Aug.17, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Harney District Hospital board room. Harney District Hospital is sponsoring the workshop which will teach the value of energy bars and sports drinks, how to to choose the proper snacks and how to improve athletic performance through good nutrition. Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance is held every Tuesday at the Harney County Senior Center. The beginner class is held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The intermediate class is held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. All ages are welcome.

All 0 to 3-year-olds and their parents are welcome to attend play group at the Early Childhood Center at 655 W. Fillmore, weekly on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Patient Assist, Needy Med Program trained volunteers will be at the Harney County Senior Center each Tuesday, from 1-3 p.m. For any questions on Medicare A, B, C or D, or for appointments call the Senior Center at 541-573-6024.

Boy Scout Troop 440, sponsored by the Burns Lion’s Club, meets each Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the LDS Church in Hines. Boys ages 11-18 are welcome to join.

Crane Schools registration will be held on Aug. 4 and Aug. 5, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. All students are required to attend registration unless they have completed all registration forms during Freshman Orientation or Kindergarten Roundup. Harney County Court meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Harney County Courthouse, 450 North Buena Vista, at 10 a.m.

The Harney County Community Response Team (CRT) meets the first Wednesday of every month from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Community Center located at 484 N. Broadway. The CRT consists of anyone interested in what is going on in the County as it relates to business and industry. County, city and tribal leaders provide general information to the public regarding existing programs and recruitment efforts.

Appointments are encouraged to ensure adequate time, supplies and equipment for your appointment, but walk-ins are always welcome. Harney District Hospital will hold a Community & Employee Appreciation event on Friday, Aug. 6, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Madison Street, between Desert Historic Theatre and Burns Elks Lodge. Free hamburger/hot dog dinner will be served from 5:30  to 7 p.m., then live music by “Bitterroot” will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Everyone is invited to this family-friendly evening with the community. Come dine, dance or just enjoy the music.

The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary members and their family are invited to the annual picnic on Saturday, Aug. 7, at the American Legion Post, on the corner of North Alvord and West “C” Street, beginning at noon. Veterans and their families who are not members are also invited to attend. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be provided. Bring a dish to share.

The Frenchglen Jamboree  will be held on Aug. 7. This is a fun-filled community event with kids events at the community corral in the morning — registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and events begin at 9:30 a.m. Team branding and team doctoring will follow. Concessions will be available throughout the day. The event culminates with an evening barbecue and live music provided by Dorman Miller. For more information, call 541-495-2315.
